A NEW wave of tension starts to brew between Ethiopia and Eritrea this week following a surprise attack by Ethiopian armed opposition group deep inside northern Ethiopian territory.
‘Arbegnoch Ginbot 7’ for Unity and Democratic Movement (AGUDM) earlier this week announced that it has officially started taking military action against the Ethiopian regime.
Amsterdam based Ethiopian Satellite Television (ESAT) had reported ‘Arbegnoch Ginbot 7’ fighters had inflicted heavy casualties on the regime’s army in a fighting that lasted several days already deep inside norther Ethiopian territory bordering Eritrea.
Government spokesperson Getachew Reda on Monday dismissed the report as fictitious. However, Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn today warned that his country may go back to war with Eritrea because of Asmara’s support to anti-Ethiopia destabilization forces.
These new accusation by the PM, while addressing the parliament, however, justifies the Eritrea based Ethiopian armed opposition fronts are actually engaged in combat operation against Ethiopian troops.
Earlier in May, Minister of Defense Siraj Fegessa said his country’s border with Eritrea remains “impenetrable“. However, this latest military attack that involves several hundreds of ‘Arbegnoch Ginbot 7’ fighters tells quite the opposite.
On several occasions, Ethiopia publicly acknowledges it started pursuing a new regime change policy against Eritrea. It also start to actively support and sustain a handful of anti-Eritrea armed opposition forces on its soil.
Following the threat, Eritrea too quietly organize a dozen of regime opposition armed forces.
Earlier this year, the popular Ginbot 7 for Justice, Freedom and Democracy Movement (Ginbot 7) and the Ethiopian People’s Patriotic Front (EPPF) merge to form the formidable ‘Arbegnoch Ginbot 7’ (AGUDM) under the authentic Green-Yellow-Red Ethiopian flag.
Four other armed opposition groups from Tigray People’s Democratic Movement (TPDM), Gambella People’s Liberation Movement (GPLM), Benishangul Peoples Liberation Movement (BPLM), and Amhara Democratic Force Movement (ADFM) have also signed a cooperation agreement on May 15, 2015 to join forces with the increasingly popular ‘Arbegnoch Ginbot 7’ (AGUDM) in order to bring change and total liberation of the Ethiopian people from the current dictatorial, ethnocentric regime.
Under the current regime, the Ethiopian people are living under a suffocating blanket of fear. The ruling party declare itself the winner of the May 24th election by 100 percent of the votes shows how repression, fear and dictatorship are rampant in the country.
The fight for freedom, democracy and equality will continue.
