A representative from the the  Eritrean community in Okland, USA, made the following “Semi-official” announcement at “Eritrean unity worldwide-EPLF 1″ Paltalk room. The following is a loosely translated summary of the 9-minute Tigrinya audio presentation.

./ On January 21, at 10:00 am the Ministry of Information (MoI) was surrounded by members of the Eritrean Defense Forces (EDF) who had been sent there, under false pretenses of trying to solve a problem within the ministry, by some of their leaders.

./ Their leaders, holding pistols, numbered five. The innocent followers were about sixty to sixty five. They had arrived there on transport vehicles and were hauling two tanks.

./ Inside the MoI building, the five leaders demanded their pre-arranged announcement be read out live on the national television. The announcement was read but due to the creativity of the MoI staff, it was never broadcast, although the leaders of the incident may have thought so.

./ Eventually, the government sent a stabilizing force to encircle the unsuspecting Innocent members of the defense force and the ministry. An officer [no name] from the stabilizing army sent in to find out what was going on inside and meet with the plot leaders. Unfortunately a disagreement ensued and the plotters shoot and wounded the officer. He is not in danger and will recover soon.

./ The sixty-five innocent members of the defense forces were given the required hospitality and care and sent back to their bases.

./ The five leaders attempted an escape. Three were instantly captured, the other two [no name given] escaped. Subsequently, security forces captured one of the escapees before he went far.  The last remaining plot leader was pin-pointed far from Asmara the next day by intelligence forces. He refused to surrender, in fact, he started shooting and subsequently killed. With that all the plotters are under control and investigation is on going.

./ From the civilian side, Abdella Jaber and Mustafa Nurhussein have been detained. [Note: Abdella was an official in charge of organizational affairs forPFDJ and Mustafa governor Debub province.]
