Charlotte Mayor Proclaim May 24 as Eritrea Independence Day

I, Anthony R. Foxx, Mayor of Charlotte, do hereby proclaim May 24, 2013 as “Eritrea Independence Day” in Charlotte, was how the proclamation from North Carolina read.

In his decree, the Mayor acknowledges how the Eritrean people all over the world observe May 24 as their Independence Day through celebrations and different activities that aim to increase public awareness to their 30 years of armed struggle and also to honor their heroes and heroine fallen to liberate the country. 

This year, Mayors of Las Vegas and Washington, D.C. has issued similar proclamations declaring May 24, 2013 as Eritrea Independence Day in their respective constituencies.

Recognizing the significance of this special day to his Eritrean constituents, Mayor Foxx commends citizens of all background in Charlotte to observe and take part in the festive.

This year May 24, 2013 is Eritrea’s 22 years of Independence.
