A SENSITIZATION and Motivation Session for the Second General Assembly of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) of the African Union organized by the Government of Eritrea in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC) was today conducted at Asmara Palace Hotel here in the capital.
The purpose of the campaign in which Eritrean national associations participated is to ensure Eritrea’s participation in ECOSOCC, besides encouraging national associations to apply for membership in the Council.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Tsegai Mogos, Deputy General Secretary of the National Confederation of Eritrean Workers (NCEW), explained that Eritrea is the land where generations of Eritreans have fought to affirm the true African values of freedom, human dignity, respect and genuine cooperation and solidarity. He went on to express conviction that the ECOSOCC would not repeat the unfruitful experience of the former Organization of African Unity. Mr. Tsegai also indicated that Eritrean national association taking part in the present campaign have made vital contribution in the process of instituting the present African Union (AU).
Also speaking at the Sensitization and Motivation Session, Ms. Elsa Haile, Director for regional and international organizations in the Foreign Ministry, stated that Eritrean national associations at home and abroad have a long and proud history of standing for equality and social justice. She also reaffirmed the readiness of the Eritrean government to provide the required support.
