Egyptian Foreign Minister Concludes Eritrea Visit

A visit aiming at boosting the strong and strategic relations and partnership between Egypt and Eritrea

EGYPTIAN Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Thursday concludes his one day Eritrea visit and returned home.

During the visit, FM Shoukry held a series of talks with President Isaias Afwerki, his counterpart Mr. Osman Saleh and Presidential Adviser Mr. Yemane Gebreab, simultaneously on boosting Eritrean-Egyptian relations of partnership, as well as regional and international developments.

During the meeting with President Isaias, FM Shoukry handed over an invitation from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to attend the African economic blocs’ summit that was slated to be held in the Red Sea Resort of Sharm El Sheikh in June.

In his meeting with FM Osman Saleh and Yemane Gebreab, the Egyptian Foreign Minister tackled a number of regional issues, notably the political and security situation in Africa in general and the developments in the Horn of Africa in particular.

The situation in Yemen and regional efforts to ensure free navigation and the movement of international trade were also dealt with in the meeting.

Speaking to local madia, FM Shoukry said that in line with the understanding previously reached between the leaders of the two countries, his current visit to Eritrea is aimed at further strengthening the longstanding historical relations between Eritrea and Egypt.

Prior to his Eritrea visit, FM Shoukry were visiting South Sudan and met with President Salva Kiir.

“The visit provides a chance to discuss the challenges facing South Sudan and its ongoing conflict,” Shoukry declared after meeting with Kiir.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Badr Abdel Atti later today said, Egypt is keen on providing support for Eritrea [and all African countries] in the fields of health, education and fisheries as well as training and qualifying African cadres.

Eritrea and Egypt enjoys a very strong and strategic relations and partnership.
