Eritrea and Japan Sign MoU for Cooperation in Field of Sports

DEAL. Eritrea – Japan Sports Collaboration from 2014 – 2020

A MEMORANDUM of Understanding was signed yesterday between Eritrea and Japan regarding Sports Collaboration at Asmara Palace Hotel here in the capital.

The Memorandum pertains to regular exchange of sports delegation, exchange of information, coordinating seminars and preparing mutual programs and projects focusing on Olympic and Paralympics participation of Eritrean athletes during the period 2014 – 2020.

Mr. Mehari Tesfay, President of the Eritrean National Olympic Committee, signed the accord on the Eritrean side and Mr. Yasuo Miyazawa, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SEISA Group in Japan. 

Mr. Semere Russom, Minister of Education, noted the vitality of the agreement as regards strengthening Eritrean – Japanese relations, besides sports activities.

Likewise, Ambassador Zemede Tekle, Sports Commissioner, commended the Japanese initiative towards strengthening culture and sports in Eritrea. He also stated that Eritrea is making the necessary preparation to register solid achievement in the 2020 Olympics scheduled to take place in Japan.

Also speaking on the occasion, Mr. Yasuo Miyazawa, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SEISA Group, lauded Eritrea’s sympathy during the destructive earthquake in East Japan, and expressed the readiness of the Japanese people and government to extend possible support to Eritrea during the 2020 Olympic and Paralympics sporting events.

Meanwhile, Mr. Minoru Kiuchi, Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, said that he was impressed with the prevailing peace and stability in Eritrea.
