By Alula Abraha,
With almost sheer vengeance, Team Eritrea has shown great character today to bounce back from the unfortunate disaster that had denied them gold medals in the Team Time Trial (TTT) yesterday, to run way this time with two Gold and a silver medals in the Individual Time Trial (ITT).
In the Women’s ITT, heroines Mosana Debesay and Wehazzit Kidane had a dominant performance running away with Gold and Silver medals respectively. With only two starters for the ITT teams, our beautiful girls couldn’t have done better with a first and second finish.
Lisa Oliver of South Africa has scrambled for bronze agonizingly so close, only a second behind Wehazzit.
In the Men’s race, Meron Teshome is the new time Trial Champion of All African Games followed by Gustav Basson of South Africa with only four seconds behind.
Barbari Adil of team Algeria, who was one of the lucky rider to have taken Meron’s, Metkel’s and Tesfom’s place in UCI training centre following the dodgy Swiss visa blockade on the Eritrean stars earlier this year, got the Bronze medal. The rider from the Swiss based UCI centre was a distant 12 seconds behind Meron Teshome.
Meron must be in a form of his life to have beaten Tunisian pro rider Rafa Chitiou of Team SkyDive Dubai pro cycling as well as Europcar’s Dan Craven, both finishing outside the medals out of a total of 45 starters.
Eritrea is still ahead in the ladies individual TT #AllAfricaGames
