Eritrean citizens in the UK today organized a huge farewell party to their gracious outgoing Ambassador H.E. Tesfamichael Gerahtu who just conclude his tenure as Eritrea’s envoy to the UK and Ireland.

On the colorful occasion, representatives of the Eritrean communities in London together with National Organizations from Birmingham, Sheffield, Liverpool, Manchester, Coventry, Nottingham, PFDJ, NUEW, YPFDJ, ERIPN, ESMT, EMWG, and SARU presented various gifts on behalf of Eritrean citizens in the UK.

Currently, Eritrea is undergoing a serious of internal restructuring and reorganizational adjustments at all levels of the country’s administrations, ministries, Embassies, PFDJ institutions and national associations in a bid to ensuring political dynamism and effective management.

Sources from Asmara confirms the appointments of 14 new ambassadors earlier last month to different countries and regional organizations as part of the country’s renewed regional and international engagement drive.

Accordingly, former Eritrean ambassador to the AU and UNECA, Ambassador Girma Asmerom, has been named as the country’s next envoy to the United Nations and Ambassador Negassi Kassa Tekle to the European Union. The assignments are ongoing.

During his tenure since 2007, Ambassador Gerahtu contributed immensely to the intensification of business and tourism relations between UK and Eritrea by organizing the highly successful annual Eri-UK friendship forum and the annual Trade and Investment Forum that already born a number of UK mining investments in Eritrea including the recent visit by a group of British businessmen led by former UK Conservative Chairman Michael Howard to the country to explore investment opportunities on Eritrea’s oil and gas sector.

Organizers of the party wished Ambassador Tesfamichael Gerahtu personal and professional success in his next duties.
