THOUSANDS of Eritrean citizens from Europe and North America are flocking to the Italian city of Bologna to take part in the 40th anniversary of the historic Eritrean Festival that opened today in the presence of several Eritrean government Ministers, senior PFDJ Officials, as well as diplomats and Head of National Associations.

Eritrean Vice President and Minister of Local Governments Mr. Woldenkiel Abraha officially opened the festival. 

The 3-day live televised event, as some call it the mother of all Eritrean Festivals, is expected to attract more than 10,000 visitors.

Eritreans will also witness the staging of several cultural performances, seminars focusing on various issues by a senior delegation of the Government and veteran cadres. Moreover, an exhibition, panel discussion and Camps, among others, would feature in the course of the Festival.

During the opening speech, Minister Abraha reminds the audience of the past struggle and the indomitable spirit of the Eritrean people and their achievement against all odds.

He also made note the endeavors being exerted as regards enhancing popular participation in the political process, reinforcing the PFDJ and ensuring sound administration, as well as management, in addition to the steps being taken towards formulating a constitutions anchored on the values of the struggle for independence and the experience acquired in the post-independence era.

Mr. Yemane Ghebreab, Presidential Advisor and  Head of Political Affairs at the PFDJ also gave an interactive seminar and discussion on current affairs to a house of full of Eritreans.
