The missing 400km Garora – Port Sudan highway to connect the port cities of Eritrea and Sudan finally inaugurated today in the presence of President Isaias Afwerki and President Omar Al-Bashir.

The Eritrean president arrived in Port-Sudan in the afternoon hours of yesterday to participate in the official opening of the 7th Red Sea Tourism and Shopping Festival that will kick start today in the port city.

In their continued efforts to have a safe and open border between the two countries by shaping each other’s strategic depth, Eritrea recently completed the 100Km road that extends from Wedi-labka via Gahtelai and Shieb to the Sudanese border town of Garora.

The completion of this highly strategic road link between Massawa Port and Port-Sudan besides the recently inaugurated Al-Lafa – Kassala continental highway is regarded as crucial as it will contribute immensely in the realization of economic integration between Sudan and Eritrea.

The two countries have already abolished visa requirements for all people and goods movement between the two countries.

Minister of Tourism, Ms. Askalu Menkorios and the Commander of the Eritrean Navy, Maj. Gen. Humed Karikare also present in the festival accompanying President Afwerki.
