By CapitalEritrea,
An experience of excellence to everyone loving hospitality, culture, class and style from restaurant, bar to rooms. The Albergo Italia Asmara in Eritrea is just completely mind – blowing.
THE HOTEL
Hotel Albergo Italia in Asmara, Eritrea is the complete restructuring of an early masonry buildings made by the Italian colonial era to the end of 800. The palace, located in the city center, remained unaltered in his outward appearance despite having been completely rebuilt internally. The property wanted to give a tone of stately elegance and quality in the furnishings, decorations and materials.
In particular way, took care of the marble flooring of the living rooms, the staircase, the suites, standard rooms and all bathrooms. Note the choice of photographic reproductions on canvas of works by major international artists, sorted and distributed in various rooms of the theme.
Interestingly courtyard, designed so as to work as a cocktail lounge. Even the lighting has been designed to give a tone very soft and very traditional in every room: wall lamps, chandeliers and lampshades, the only concession to modernity have replaced traditional bulbs with LEDs that give off a pinkish light favorable to relaxation . Finally, with just 18 rooms and suites, the hotel Italia could be called “Relais de Charme”. You ask how can this be accomplished? See yourself and find one of Africa’s most astonishing hotels, the Albergo Italia.
WHAT THE GUESTS’ SAY
A selection of reviews from TripAdvisor:
“Albergo Italia would be an awesome hotel in any city in the world – in Asmara there is nothing to compare to it. A highly central location, functioning internet and other essential facilities are all superior to other establishments, but the real draw is the colonial style decor, design and atmosphere, which is like stepping into another world. Despite the old world style, amenities are up to date and the hotel is clean and well run. A trip to Eritrea staying at the Albergo Italia will be a unique experience for any traveller, no matter how many other places you have been to”. (Stayed September 2012, travelled as a couple)
“I have taken our first American group tour to the Horn of Africa and our first stop was the lovely city of Asmara where we checked in to hotel Albergo Italia, originally built in 1899 and renovated recently to be able to provide some modern amenities. The location is superb, near all the beautiful Italian buildings and the hotel itself does have GREAT charm and a lovely patio and good restaurant but sadly needs a LOT of small care: good bath towels, better breakfast selection, guaranteed HOT water, repair of the phone system so you can get a wake up call and surely some cosmetics in the bathroom that has mold around the bath tub and shower door. This hotel has tremendous potential and the price is right. Met the owner who has been so kind to alert his staff hat in our second stay we needed some extra care, so we did have a more pleasant 2nd stay.. with even omellette for breakfast. Overall, it was a pleasant stay and I recommend the place for people who do not want the BEST and the most comfortable accommodation”. (Stayed February 2013, traveled on business)
”Albergo Italia (now named also Keren Hotel) is a true gem in Asmara center. It has been completely restored in 2009. The whole hotel is charming and fascinating and all covered by luxurious marbles. The rooms are refurbished with style and are absolutely clean. The hotel bar is also one of the best places for “aperitivo” in the city. It is in the center of the city, just steps from Harnet avenue (main street). The breakfast is not huge (no buffet, by voice orders) but always pleasant with offer of pure (and no water added) orange juice, toasted bread, jams and a tasty omelette. The staff is nice and attentive. Sometimes it could happen a lack of hot water (not depending by the hotel), but usually when the problem is communicated to reception, in a few minute it is solved. I think it is the best choice in Asmara if you are looking for a old fashioned accomodation without give up fort the confiort and position.” (Stayed November 2011, travelled with friends)
“The room was lovely and quite the best I had when I was on holiday in Eritrea March 2007. Beautiful furniture and decoration. Friendly staff. The hotel is within walking distance to all the atractions. The main street is a two minuit walk. I would also recommend the resaurant “Casa degli Italiani” just up the street. The best food in my opion, and sometimes you may even buy foreing wine!.” (Stayed March 2007, travelled with friends)
