EMBASSY Media conducted an interview with Mr. Suleman Hasen, Head of the Consular Affairs at the Eritrean Embassy in London in connection with the upcoming 24th Independence day celebration and the new national identity card that the government is set to distribute to all Eritrean citizens.
The new Eritrean ID card is expected to play a greater role in sorting out, among its many other advantages, issues related to falsified Eritrean identity used by many African migrants to fast track their asylum process.
Ever since the UNHCR invariably categorized all Eritrean illegal migrants as ‘prima facia asylum seekers‘ ten years ago, the number of other African migrants especially from Ethiopia camouflaging their identity as Eritrean have increased dramatically. Such precedents have resulted to an ever exaggerated number of Eritrean migrants statistics that the agency and other UN organisations would like to use it for other political ends against Eritrea and its government.
Therefore, the issuance of the new modern national ID card has its own paramount importance in terms of national security and dignity.
Here is what Mr. Suleman Hasen has to say regarding the issuance of the new ID card and the services his department is providing in that regard.
