Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Iran has no restriction on the further expansion of all-out ties with Eritrea.
He made the remarks in his meeting with Eritrea’s new Ambassador to Iran Mohammad Saeed Mentai Edris on Sunday.
During the meeting, Ahmadinejad termed bilateral ties between the two countries as “positive and growing,”, and said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran sees no limit for promoting the level of ties with Eritrea.”
Iran and Eritrea can take steps towards further the development of bilateral ties through activating all their potentials and capacities, he said, and called on the two countries to expedite implementation of bilateral agreements and explore and activate new potentials.
Also during the meeting, Saeed Mentai Edris said, “Eritrea wants to enhance its relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and believes that it would be in the interest of both states.”
Tehran has prioritized promotion of its economic and political ties with the African states and the country is now considered as one of the African Union’s strategic partners.
Tehran’s efforts to boost ties and cooperation with Africa have led to its acceptance as an observing member of the African Union (AU), where it has shown an active presence in the AU summit meetings.
Tehran hosted the Iran-Africa Forum in September 2010. High-ranking officials from different African states attended the gathering to discuss ways to boost cooperation between Iran and the African continent.
Government and private sector officials from more than 40 African states were present at the two-day conference.
Iran, Eritrea Keen to Bolster Bilateral Cooperation
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and Eritrea’s new Ambassador to Tehran Mohammad Saeed Mentai Edris discussed ways to further develop mutual trade cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting in Tehran on Sunday, Salehi pointed to the friendly and good relations between Iran and Eritrea, and said Iran is ready to share its valuable experiences and expertise with the African country in economic fields.
He also stressed increasing reciprocal visits by Iranian and Eritrean officials as well as representatives of public and private sectors in a bid to get more familiar with each other’s potentials and bolster the bilateral ties in all grounds, specially in trade and economy.
Edris expressed his country and nation’s readiness for the further expansion of mutual cooperation with Iran in all fields and without any limitation.
