A statement from the Italian Foreign Ministry confirms that Stefano Moscatelli has been appointed as the new Italian ambassador to Eritrea.
According to the statement, his appointment has already received both the Council of Ministers approval and the Eritrean government’s consent.
Stefano Moscatelli was born in Rome in 1962. After earning a degree in Political Science at the University of Rome, he joined the Foreign Service in 1991 and started his professional career at the Foreign Ministry at the Directorate General for Political Affairs.
In 1995 he moved to Maracaibo as Consul and in 1999 to Embassy of Italy in Quito as Trade Secretary. He returned to the Ministry in 2003, assumes the press and information service.
On September 2005, he was appointed Consul General of Italy in Cordoba and two years later in 2007, he was promoted as Embassy Counsellor.
In 2009, he was appointed as Chargé d’affairs in Harare and in 2012, he was confirmed as Ambassador of Italy to Harare, Zimbabuwe.
Up on return to Rome in 2014, Stefano Moscatelli plays the role of Inspector of the Ministry and offices abroad. October of that year, he was appointed as Deputy Director General for Administration, Information Technology and Communications.
On January 2, 2016, he was promoted to Minister Plenipotentiary and from October 16 as Italian Ambassador to Asmara.
