THE National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students (NUEYS) has been re-elected as the Pan African Youth Union (PYU) Vice-President for the East Africa/Indian Ocean region on the occasion of the 4th PYU Congress, which took place in Johannesburg, South Africa from 28-29 November 2014.

A Pan African Youth Summit took place simultaneously with the congress under the theme “Youth Moving Africa Forward.”

NUEYS was represented at the congress by an official delegation of four young people.

NUEYS had been elected to be the PYU Vice-President during the 3rd PYU congress, which was held in Khartoum in December 2011, and this time around, NUEYS’ bid to keep that position went uncontested.

Also on the occasion, Ms. Francine Muyumba from the Democratic Republic of Congo was elected to become the PYU President, the first time in history that the PYU/PYM has elected a female for the post of president.

The Pan African Youth Union is the coordinating body of youth platforms and representative organizations at national, regional and continental levels in Africa.

PYU enjoys a specialized agent status at the African Union (AU) and works in close collaboration with the African Union Commission.

PYU works for the realization of the ideals and objectives of the AU, namely unity, peace, democracy, sustainable development and African integration.
