Since its inception in 2004, the Orotta School of Medicine graduates 176 Medical Doctors and dozens of Specialists while keeping another 390 student on its current roster

A total of 26 medical doctors who attended a 7-year General Medicine program along with 3 pediatrics specialists graduated today from Orotta School of Medicine and Dental Medicine.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the Minister of Health, Ms. Amna Nur-Hussein, explained that the government has been striving to promote the citizenry’s well being through extending health facilities, and that commendable achievement has been attained to this end.
Accordingly, the outreach of health facilities has reached 70% nationwide vis-à-vis accomplishments registered in the eradication and control of critical diseases such as polio, tetanus and the like.
Prof. Andemariam Gebremichael, Dean of Orotta School of Medicine and Dental Medicine, congratulated the graduating class on achieving such long-awaited academic merit, and called on them to serve the people with dedication and in line with the values of the School.
Dr. Ogbaselassie Gebreamlak, Director of Orotta Postgraduate Medical Education, on his part pointed out that the 3 specialists are experienced physicians who have been attending a residency training program, the standard of which is assured by external examiners. He further indicated that the School has graduated 15 pediatricians over the past 5 years, which input is remarkable in fulfilling the necessary expertise in this regard.
A representative of the graduating class expressed satisfaction with the educational opportunity accorded them at government expenditure. Furthermore, the graduates reiterated that they would serve the people with dedication.
Orotta School of Medicine and Dental Medicine, which was established in 2004, has so far graduated a total of 176 Medical Doctors, while more than 390 are presently studying General Medicine and Dentistry.
Orotta School of Medicine Nurturing up-to-Standard Professionals: Sudanese External Examiners
(Asmara, 11 December 2012) – A number of external examiners from Geziera University, Republic of Sudan, said that Orotta School of Medicine and Dental Medicine is nurturing up-to-standard professionals. The academicians who have been supervising the batch comprising 40 students engaged in internship indicated that the academic scrutiny involved theoretical and practical examinations, and that they are satisfied with the students’ level of competence.
Prof. Ali Haboor, Dean of Medicine Faculty in Gezira University, and Dr. Fawzia Yusuf, a Pediatrician, asserted that graduates from Orotta School of Medicine and Dental Medicine fulfill the requirements for professional health personnel vis-à-vis international standards, thus demonstrating Eritrea’s bright future in this regard.
Prof. Usman Kalafela, Dean of Applied Medical School in Gezira University, and Prof. Hashim Eltom, a Physician, on their part explained that the attained competence of the students is the outcome of the virtue of hard work on their part and their instructors, in addition to the curricular standard and the government’s commitment to this end. Furthermore, they pointed out that the medical institute would make bold input in promoting the impact of the health sector upon graduating the first batch of dentists in 2014.
“The fact that 15 out of the 40 students are females attests to the growing role of women in the career, and the batch as a whole is admirable ethics-wise and in the mastery of the English language,” stated Dr. Islam Saleh.
Likewise, Dr. Osman Hamid lauded the country’s capability of nurturing competitive medical professionals in a short time, and stated that the growing capacity of the school should be exploited to the maximum extent so as to ensure the desired number of medical professionals in a relatively shorter time span.
Orotta School of Medicine and Dental Medicine, which was established in 2004, has so far graduated 3 batches.
