Asmara, April 2, 2014 – The Asmara-based Peacebuilding Centre for the Horn of Africa (PCHA) hosted a roundtable discussion with twenty Eritrean members from academia, public, private sectors and civil society and visiting researchers Jason Mosley and Ahmed Soliman from the UK-based international affairs think tank Chatham House.
The theme for the roundtable discussion “Eritrean Perspectives on the Future of the Horn of Africa” provided an opportunity for Eritreans from within various sectors to impart their observations and experiences with international attitudes and impressions of Eritrea. The researchers’ overall remarks covered the pertinent and ongoing need for increased attention to foreign policymakers’ perceptions and approach towards Eritrea and finding the areas and possibilities to engage Eritrea further.
Discussion topics included the weight of geopolitics in the region, internal and external factors contributing to continued conflict, trajectory of Horn of Africa economies and relations between regional organizations. Participants also attended a dinner in which further conversations took place concluding that in the future dialogue and engagement is necessary.
