The two countries reaffirmed their readiness to put relations back on track.

Senior Eritrean delegation led by Foreign Minister Osman Saleh and Presidential Adviser Yemane Gebreab today May 19 met and delivered message from President Isaias Afwerki to the President of the Transitional Military Council (TMC) of Sudan, Lt. Gen. Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan at the presidential palace in Khartoum.
In his message, President Isaias expressed Eritrea’s solidarity with the people of Sudan and his country’s confidence in the ability of the Sudanese people to find solution to their own issues.
The visit comes within the framework of Eritrea’s desire to learn about the situation in Sudan and to conduct negotiations between the TMC and Alliance of Freedom and Change (AFC).
FM Saleh said in a press statement that he had a fruitful and constructive meeting with the President of the Military Council on bilateral relations between the two countries.
The President of the Transitional Military Council of Sudan, Lt. Gen. Al-Burhan welcomed the initiative of Eritrea and briefed the delegation on the developments in the country.
In their meeting, they also discuss about the declaration of peace between Eritrea and Ethiopia and the tripartite agreements between Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia to push the cooperation between the three countries forward in the economic and social fields.
Lt. Gen. Al-Burhan expressed the hope that the process of change in Sudan will lead to the consolidation of relations between the two countries and achieve the interests of both peoples.
Ties between Sudan and Eritrea deteriorated 16 months ago after the now deposed government of President Omar al-Bashir unilaterally closed the border.

Both sides now reaffirmed their readiness to put the relations of the two countries back on track.
The Eritrean delegation is on a two-day official visit to Sudan.
