The East-African country Eritrea holds a continental record after winning the continental championship for three years in a row along with 21 gold medals

The 2012 African Continental Cycling Championships drew to a close on Sunday with the victory of Natnael Berhane in the men’s road race through Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

At the end of the 170 kilometres, the Eritrean rider out-sprinted his breakaway partner, South Africa’s Jay Thompson, while his compatriot Frekalsi Debesay took third place. Last year’s African Cycling Champion, Eritrean Natnael Berhane, becomes the 2012 African Cycling Champion, again, by winning the final race set by this year’s Continental Championship in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso).

He sweeps up two gold medals after winning the 170Km race both for the elite men and U23 titles at an astonishing time of 4hr 00’ 27” at an average speed of 42.42 Km/hr.

Eritrea Set to Win the 2012 African Cycling Championship with a Style

Africa’s undeterred cycling giant, Eritrea, has vowed to win what is going to be its third consecutive continental cycling championship that is planned to be held in Ouagadougou – Burkina Faso from November 6 to 11.

The seven men strong road cycling team will consist of the famous four professional cyclists as well as three other local talents by the name of Natnael Berhane (Europcar), Daniel Teklehaymanot (GreenEdge), Tesfom Okbamariam (Zoba Debub), Bereket Yemane (ASBECO), Meron Teshome (ASBECO), Frekalsi Debesai (MTN) and Janni Tewolde (MTN).  Continue reading Eritrea Set to Win the 2012 African Cycling Championship with a Style
