African Union AIDS Summit is a ‘Talk Shop’

Conferences of this kind, with grandly-worded commitments, usually accomplish little.

They have gathered once more for a talk shop
They gathered once more for a talk shop

By Azad Essa (Al Jazeera),

Dubbed a “special summit” on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the summit has brought together African leaders in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, to discuss progress in alleviating the threats posed by the three diseases.

And yet a trip to #Abuja+12 to discuss “progress” could be considered superfluous. A simple stroll down to a local clinic in Yibe, Addis Ababa or Khayelitsha in Cape Town or Kibera in Nairobi would give a true account of actual progress made in combating these diseases on the continent.

For anyone ever affected by TB, malaria or HIV/AIDS, directly or indirectly, which is a majority of Africans, these summits and their grandly worded commitments usually mean little.  Continue reading African Union AIDS Summit is a ‘Talk Shop’

History of UN Human Rights Violation and Vendetta against Eritrean People

UN miscarriage of justice against Eritrea continues unabated

By Dawit Solomon,

When UN was setup in the eve of the end of WWII devastation, world peace was at its center of focus.

Decolonization of people or nations who were suffering under colonization in many parts of the word through self-determinations was the motto of UN founders.

They had setup an office of Decolonization to help people under colony achieve their independence.  Continue reading History of UN Human Rights Violation and Vendetta against Eritrean People

Woyane’s “Crab Mentality”, an Obstacle to Peace and Security in the Region

TPLF's Crab Mentality and Obsession with Eritrea

By Sophia Tesfamariam,

The other day, I was talking to an Ethiopian friend of mine who found himself apologizing for the minority regime’s latest diplomatic faux pas.  He was referring to the latest Ethiopian “diplomatic” charade at the UN Security Council. He was having a hard time understanding how any Ethiopian would stop so low as to deprive Eritreans of the right to development. No apologies necessary. I told him that Eritreans know full well that the people of Ethiopia never harbored such evil and willful thoughts about Eritrea or Eritreans. I explained to him that the “crab mentality” was unique to the minority regime in Ethiopia and its ignominious leaders.

For those who don’t know about “crab mentality” is, it’s an attitude that afflicts those, such as the regime in Ethiopia and its Tigrayan leaders, who suffer from inferiority complex.  The term “crab mentality” is used to describe a kind of selfish, short-sighted thinking which runs along the lines of “if I can’t have it, neither can you.”  Continue reading Woyane’s “Crab Mentality”, an Obstacle to Peace and Security in the Region

Eritrea Reopens its African Union Mission in Ethiopia

African Union

Eritrea has reopened its mission to the African Union, ending years of self-imposed exile from the continental organization. But diplomats say the move does not signal a thaw in relations between Eritrea and its archrival, the African Union host Ethiopia.

Eritrea’s ambassador to the African Union Girma Asmerom Tesfay presented credentials this week to AU Commission Chairman Jean Ping. An AU statement said Ping expressed delight at seeing Eritrea return to the 53-member organization after several years’ absence.     Continue reading Eritrea Reopens its African Union Mission in Ethiopia

Ethiopia undermines Eritrean Ambassador role ahead of his appointment

Amb. Girma Asmerom

Editor’s Note:- Ethiopia has been working for some time to destabilize Eritrea just like what they did to Somalia. However, due to the unity and steadfastness of the Eritrean people, none of the plans has worked so far. In continuation of this grand plan and an attempt to discredit the government of Eritrea, Ethiopia has intensified a media campaign against the Ambassador of Eritrea to the Africa Union.

Below is what the ruling TPLF junta has posted on its propaganda website on the 18th of January 2011. Happy Reading ——>  Continue reading Ethiopia undermines Eritrean Ambassador role ahead of his appointment
