TPLF Threatens to Distance Itself From EPRDF’s Amhara Democratic Party (ADP)

The ensuing crisis within Ethiopia’s ruling coalition (EPRDF) may end up with the forced or voluntary expulsion of TPLF from the coalition or the inevitable dissolution of the coalition itself.

In a strong statement it released late yesterday the Central Committee (CC) of Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), one of the four major parties that make up Ethiopia’s ruling party, EPRDF, said that it would be hard pressed to continue to work or to struggle alongside the Amhara Democratic Party (ADP), the other major polity of EPRDF, unless the later looked inward and fixed its internal crisis. Former comrades in arms described retired Brig. Gen. Asaminew Tsige, who was shot dead on June 24, as a mediocre soldier and a poor administrator. Asaminew was gunned down by government forces two days after allegedly masterminding the assassination of three senior officials of Ethiopia’s Amhara state, including its president—events labeled part of “an orchestrated coup attempt” by the Ethiopian prime minister’s office. Ethiopia: Chaos, TPLF’s Last Hurrah?

The criminal TPLF believes the fragmentation of Ethiopia and the ensuing chaos was its only get out of jail card.

The tragic events in Bahir Dar and Addis Abeba on Saturday (22) were supposed to be the trigger that would plunge Ethiopia into ethnic chaos if the criminal TPLF gang had its way. The TPLF now cornered in Tigray, unable to fulfill its promises to the people of Tigray, is seeking a way out. It knows that in light of the atrocities and the grand scale embezzlement it had committed over the past three decades, that it cannot return to power in Ethiopia. Amhara Region Coup Leader Shot and Killed

The alleged leader of Saturday’s coup attempt in Ethiopia’s northern Amhara state has been shot and killed.
