Andargachew “Andy” is a British national of Ethiopian origin. He has been sentenced to death twice in the Ethiopian regime’s kangaroo courts and highly likely to face torture. A year has passed since he was abducted and the British Government has done absolutely nothing, other than express regrets and issue fuzzy statements, to secure his release or to ensure that he is not subjected to abuse and mistreatment. It is a shame Andargachew Tesige “Andy” is a British national in name only.

THE UN has demanded the immediate release of a Briton held on death row in Ethiopia for more than a year, an intervention that campaigners say exposes Britain’s poor diplomacy towards the case.

Experts from the UN Human Rights Council have advised Ethiopia to pay Andargachew Tsige “adequate compensation” before sending him home to London, an abrupt hardening of its position on the case at a time when Britain pursues a softly, softly approach with no tangible reward. UK Warns Ties with Ethiopia at Risk

Andargachew “Andy” is a British national of Ethiopian origin. He has been sentenced to death twice in the Ethiopian regime’s kangaroo courts and highly likely to face torture. THE British government told Ethiopia on Thursday its treatment of an imprisoned opposition figure, who is also a British national, was unacceptable and that the case risked hurting ties between the two countries.

Andargachew Tsige was sentenced to death in 2009 in absentia over his involvement with an opposition political group and another trial handed him life behind bars three years later. He was arrested in Yemen in 2014 and extradited to Ethiopia.  Continue reading UK Warns Ties with Ethiopia at Risk

The EU Human Rights Committee condemns the systematic prosecution of political opponents for “treason” and “terrorism” by the Ethiopian government to curb freedoms of expression and association in the country

THE European Human Rights Committee today opens a hearing on the illegal abduction and detention of Mr. Andargachew Tsgie, General Secretary of the Ethiopian opposition group known as Ginbot 7 Movement for Justice, Freedom and Democracy, as well as on the flagrant violation of Human Rights in the country by the Ethiopian government.
