Ethiopia: TPLF Use of “Anti-Terrorism Law” to Terrorize Citizens

In the police state Ethiopia, standing up for democracy and human rights is terrorism. Defending the rule of law is terrorism. Peaceful resistance of state terrorism is terrorism.

This is exactly what apartheid white minority use of “anti-terrorism law” to terrorize black South Africans. The first indisputable fact is the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) is itself a certified terrorist organization officially listed in the Global Terrorism Database.

So there is no question whatsoever that the TPLF is a terrorist organization clinging to power in Ethiopia!

How can a certified terrorist organization use “anti-terrorism law” to go after others it calls “terrorists”? (That is the million dollar question!)

The whole “terrorism” thing was a god-send for TPLF thugmaster Meles Zenawi in the mid-2000s. “Terrorism” in the Horn of Africa was both Meles’ get-out-of-jail-card for his crimes against humanity and a welfare card to get maximum handouts from the United States. Ethiopia Hands Lengthy Prison Terms to Muslim Activists

The crackdown on Muslim activists is part of Addis Ababa’s crusade against independent voices and opposition leaders

An Ethiopian court sentenced 17 Muslim activists on Monday to prison sentences ranging from seven to 22 years on charges they plotted to create an Islamic state in the majority Christian country.

A journalist for a Muslim newspaper was also sentenced for conspiring with the activists, the court in Addis Ababa said.

THE Ethiopian government has arrested six independent bloggers and a journalist in what human rights group Amnesty International has called a “suffocating grip on freedom of expression“.

Six members of independent blogger and activist group ‘Zone 9’ and a prominent Ethiopian journalist were arrested on Friday in the capital Addis Ababa.

All six bloggers were arrested at night by armed security forces and taken from their homes to the Federal Police Crime Investigation Sector ‘Maikelawi’, where political prisoners are alleged to be held in pre-trial, and sometimes arbitrary detention.  Continue reading Ethiopia Detains Bloggers and Journalist
