1The Government of Eritrea’s central, two-track policy framework was anchored, from the outset, on a robust preventive strategy that encompassed the full arsenal of standard and customized tools of suppression to pre-empt, and in the case of the first outbreak, sever and abort the transmission of the pandemic.

A Request: More Honesty and Less Nonsense

Eritrea’s strong, coherent, and effective response thus far to COVID-19 should merit more positive recognition and credit, if not at least basic honesty, rather than the recent blatantly incorrect portrayals, dissemination of false information, and shady attempts to score political points.

COVID-19 Tests: Two New Cases in Asmara

The first phase of extensive and random testing of 4,659 households in various sections of the capital Asmara completed; the overall result is encouraging.

The first phase of the random community testing result shows out of the 4,659 tested households, only one household (husband and wife) confirmed COVID-19 positive.

In its statement of 16 May last month, the High-Level Task Force on COVID-19 announced that the GOE has “decided for the launching of random and extensive testing to gauge the spread of COVID-19 in the country in a comprehensive and more reliable manner”. Eritrea to Conduct Random Community Testing for COVID-19

The first phase of tests will be carried out in several sections of Asmara from Sunday, 17th May onwards. Towns and villages in border areas, as well as front-line health workers and other relevant institutions, will also be part and parcel of this first phase testing.

Eritrea to launch random and extensive community testing to better track the spread of COVID-19 in the country in a comprehensive and more reliable manner.
