AWESOME. Two Eritrean riders, Daniel Teklehaimanot and Natal Berhane are included in Team Dimension Data’s 13 member provisional squad for the Tour de France.

Six African riders were included in Team Dimension Data’s provisional squad for the Tour de France on Tuesday, led by Eritrean Daniel Teklehaimanot who won a second successive king-of-the-mountains crown at this month’s Criterium du Dauphine.

Daniel Teklehaimanot Secured the Polka Dot Jersey for the Second Year in a Row

Eritrean rider Daniel Teklehaimanot secured the best climber of the race title at the 2016 Critèrium du Dauphiné to become the only rider to win 2 Dauphine polka dot jerseys in a row since 1996.

Stage 7 of the 2016 Critèrium du Dauphiné was another tough one. With six categorized climbs on the menu, Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka wanted to be part of the action to help Daniel Teklehaimanot claim back the Polka Dots jersey as the best climber of the race. In the end our African Team was able to celebrate, as the Eritrean star secured the jersey for the second year in a row.

Edvald Boasson Hagen was also able to get onto the podium, taking the overall in the points classification. Dauphine #5: Daniel Teklehaimanot Wins the Polka Dot Jersey Again

“I like the polka dot jersey a lot. So I’m really happy again today. I won the King of the Mountains competition last year. Of course it’s my goal to win it again this year. Tomorrow it’s very hilly. I’ll try to keep the jersey but it won’t be easy. What I and my team achieved last year gave us a lot of motivation to perform again this year at the Dauphiné and the Tour de France.” – Daniel Teklehaimanot

The first real uphill finish of this year’s Criterium du Dauphine saw Chris Froome (Team Sky) take the victory ahead of GC rivals, Richie Porte (BMC) and Adam Yates (Orica-Greenedge). African Rider ‘Will be on Tour de France Podium in 3-5 Years’

Eritrea continues to make history. These two Eritrean riders are the first black Africans in the 102 years history of the Tour de France. One is the youngest amongst the 198 entrants, while the other is not only the first to win a world tour jersey for his team and himself but he is also a team leader. An Eritrean could be on the podium in 3-5 years.

VERY IMPRESSIVE. MTN-Qhubeka’s Daniel Teklehaimanot maintains his lead as king of Mountain in the 2015 Critérium du Dauphiné and keep defending his polka dot jersey for the fifth time with 33 KOM points to his name.

WITH five categorised climbs on 161km route today at the Critérium du Dauphiné 2015, it was important for the Eritrean Daniel Teklehaimanot to get into the break to protect his polka dot jersey.

#Dauphine Stage-2: Teklehaimanot Extends Lead in Mountains Classification

Eritrean Daniel Teklehaimanot keeps the polka dot jersey at the second day of the Criterium du Dauphine 2015 race by securing maximum points of 25 at the top of the climb

AFTER pulling on the King of the Mountains leaders’ jersey at the end of yesterday’s opening Criterium du Dauphine stage, Daniel Teklehaimanot would find the break of the day again on today’s 2nd stage and he would extend his lead in the polka dot jersey competition.

With the stage starting immediately on a category 2 climb, it was another good opportunity for Daniel to collect a few more points towards the polka dot jersey. Daniel made his move from the gun and there would be two riders that would follow him.
