The discovery of the nearly complete, one million year old Homo cranium (skull) in 1995 near the village of Buia, in Eritrea, was a scientific breakthrough. (Photo: The Lady of Buia skull while in its original place as taken in 1995)

Let’s imagine for a moment on the present scenery of the Danakil Depression of Eritrea, the now place of the proud Afar people but home to our Human ancestor a million years from the present. What would you think? Would you think this area was once covered by forest with adjacent savannas and lake environment where large and medium-sized animals and humans inhabited? Would you think, that different types of animals – later extinct – from the once we know now, were living in this area. Would you think that this area was the most favorable place to live and evolve for any living creature before a million years or more? Continue reading The Lady of Buia ― Eritrea→
The Colluli Project, an equal joint venture between South Boulder Mines and the Eritrean National Mining Company (ENAMCO) is a unique potash resource that will help feed the world
THERE’s no arguing with the fundamentals. Growing populations, reduction in arable land, changing dietary preferences, climate change and the escalating demands of emerging economies have placed food security at the top of the political as well as the economic agenda.
World population is growing by some 75 million every year. By 2050 almost 9.3 billion people are expected to inhabit the earth. Food production will have to increase by almost 50 percent to feed them, and this means a huge global demand for fertilisers, already forecast to reach 190 million tonnes by 2016. Abstract—The Danakil Depression is located in Eritrea, a few kilometers inland from the Red Sea coast and sinks 120 meters below sea level. This concept paper attempts to explore Eritrea’s ability to develop a hydroelectric and potable water generation capacity from the Red Sea. Unlike many countries with access to seas and oceans, Eritrea is endowed with a natural hydro dam because of its geographical location and topography. The Red Sea can be used as a resource for the production of energy as hydro dam and potable water source through desalination. The availability of cheap, clean and environmentally safe energy and water sources will enable the country to eliminate poverty and stop environmental degradation, thus contributing to reduce or minimize the global warming problem.
Scholar suggests Eritrea can generate cheap, clean renewable and sustainable electrical energy system from the Red Sea
Eritrea is a young nation, only 20 years old since it achieved its independence in 1993. It is located in the Horn of Africa, bordered in the north and west by Sudan, in the south by Ethiopia and Djibouti, and in the east by the Red Sea. It has an estimated population of about 5.9 million and a total land area of some 12.2 million hectares. Its annual population growth is estimated at 2.9 percent [1].
Eritrea – a young nation, yet possessing evidences of ancient civilization; a heritage that dates back to the creation of human kind gifted with fascinating features of land. Moving colors of culture, a wonderland of pleasure and a magic sea of adventure; a coastal line most suitable to scuba diving, not to mention swimming and rafting; a desert attractive for camel rides in the bright moonlight of the summer night; a fascinating countryside of landscape and vegetation, permanently forest and green Continue reading Eritrea : A Dreamland of All Kinds of Tourists→

Where would you find the world’s shallowest buried evaporite potash deposit? The answer is the Callolui Potash Project in Eritrea which is presently owned by South Boulder Mines (ASX:STB).
Eritrea’s second potash project, the Bada Potash deposit, to start drilling program
NGEx,
NGEx Resources Inc. is pleased to announce the start of the initial drill program on its wholly owned Bada Potash project located in the Danakil Depression of Eritrea. This large license, encompassing over 431 square kilometres, is located 30 kilometres inland from the Red Sea port of Mersa Fatma and 150 kilometres southeast of the capital city of Asmara.
The Bada license is situated within the Eritrean portion of the Danakil Depression, an evaporite basin extending southward into Ethiopia, where exploration in the 1960’s resulted in the discovery of the large Crescent and Musley potash and sylvite deposits. The Company plans to drill an initial 6-8 shallow holes that will test the potash potential of its license.
