HOW are documents, particularly by different countries, handled by the UN Human Rights Council and its Secretariat? How can a statement by one country — not to the UNHRC — appear on the UN’s website mixed into the statement of another country?
The UN Secretary General recently appointed a new “finance expert” to replace the previous one, Dinesh Mahtani.
Mahtani resignedin disgrace from the UN’s Somalia Eritrea Monitoring Group (SEMG), after it was revealed, by the investigative journalism of Inner City Press, that Mahtani was advocating for regime change in Eritrea in his capacity as the member of SEMG.
Investigative journalist Mattew Russell Lee of the Inner City Press (IPC) today exposed Dinesh Mahtani, a member of the UN Somalia Eritrea Monitoring Group from the UK, after he found proofthat Mahtani requested favors from member states on behalf of a former Eritrean official using UN SEMG letterheads.
Though completely out of his role as a financial expert of the SMEG, the letterfrom Dinesh Mahtani, however, asked the Australian government for a favour to facilitate the former Eritrean Minister of Information with a full refugee status so that he could travel as necessary and coordinate ‘his activities‘.
