Djibouti accused neighboring Eritrea on Friday of occupying disputed territory along their border after Qatar withdrew its peacekeepers.

THE AU Commissioner for Peace and Security, Ambassador Smaïl Chergui, visited the Republic of Djibouti and the State of Eritrea in the context of the relevant decisions of the AU policy organs, regarding the situation in the Horn of Africa on 19 April and on 6 May 2014, respectively.
During his visits, the Commissioner was received by President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh and President Isaias Afewerki. He seized the opportunity of his interactions with the two Heads of State to apprise them of the AU’s peace efforts in the region and other related issues. It is rather interesting that Tekeda Alemu would today feign concern and call on Eritrea to show a “pacific disposition” towards Djibouti, Somalia and Ethiopia [i]. As this author recalls, it was Tekeda Alemu that asked the US to break the otherwise amicable and neighborly Djibouti-Eritrea relations.
How can Eritrea have a “pacific disposition” to Ethiopia when for over a decade Ethiopia has been occupying its sovereign territories in violation of the Eritrea Ethiopia Boundary Commission’s (EEBC) final and binding delimitation and demarcation decisions, international law, the United Nations and African Union Charters?
