Sudan’s foreign minister was in Egypt on Saturday for a visit that could potentially be a prelude to defusing tensions between the two Afro-Arab neighbors over a longtime border dispute.

Sudan Bans Egyptian Farm Imports

Private sector was urged to import agricultural and animal products directly from countries of origin, bypassing Egypt.

Sudan’s cabinet has approved a ban on imports of agricultural and animal products from Egypt amid escalation of tensions between the two countries.

Sudan’s cabinet has approved a ban on importing agricultural and animal products from Egypt, according to Sudan’s state news agency SUNA.

Sudan President Accuses Egypt of “Occupying Sudanese Lands”

Relations between Cairo and Khartoum have been on edge as of late after President Bashir claimed Egypt of supporting opposition figures and illegally imposed sovereignty over the disputed Halayeb triangle.

Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir accuses Egypt, again, of occupying the Halayeb triangle and illegally imposing its sovereignty over it.

In his interview with the Qatari outlet Al-Jazeera, Al-Bashir said Sudan rejects war against Egypt and is ready for arbitration of the United Nations security council in the case, to prove that Halayeb triangle belongs to the Sudanese territories. Egypt’s foreign ministry announced an agreement between Egypt and Sudan that would fix problems faced by citizens of both countries over the past months, regarding residency, freedom of movement and visa costs, Arabic Ahram website reported, citing a statement from the ministry.
