The Eritrean Cultural Heritage: Facts and Projects

Italian and Eritrean scholars held academic meeting to exchange experiences, share research findings, and refine research projects about the preservation of Eritrean cultural heritage

Inscription of Asmara on the UNESCO World Heritage List attracts international interest in the cultural heritage of the capital city. But other essential facts that contributed to the contemporary Eritrean collective identity deserves equal attention in order to reconstruct the multifaceted history of Eritrea.

International Conference on Eritrean Studies Creates Common Understanding

The participants of the International Conference on Eritrean Studies indicated that the conference has significant contribution in creating common understanding.

Mr. Efrem Tekeste, lecturer on Political Science at the Adi-Keih College of Arts and Social Science, said that the conference will have significant input in understanding the importance of research in all development aspects. He also underlined that the conference will help the foreign intellectuals participating in the conference expand their understanding on the political situation in Eritrea and region and has also created a forum for them to share experiences with their Eritrean counterparts. International Conference on Eritrean Studies Underway in Asmara

Organized by the National Commission for Higher Education, the Research and Documentation Center and the Eritrean Strategic Studies Center, a two days International Conference on Eritrean Studies (ICES) is underway in Asmara. Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UNDP sponsored the conference.

A Glimpse to the First International Conference on Eritrean Studies (ICES)

The International Conference on Eritrean Studies specifically aims to revive scholarly discussions on Eritrea and sketch ways of strengthening academic interest and activities related to the country by engaging scholars from inside and outside Eritrea. It is the first step towards the institutionalization of Eritrean studies, besides being a direct challenge to so called “Experts” who writes acedemic research on Eritrea, with out setting foot to the country, that lacks objective data and facts.

African Studies, Chinese studies, American Studies… All these scholarly well-established research areas have so far been incomplete as Eritrean Studies were missing from the picture. The amount of academic research is tremendous, featuring important and rich topics, including archeology, energy, politics, and the humanities, amongst others.

Hence, engaging scholars from inside and outside Eritrea comes at a very important juncture and it is more than ever the occasion to create an academic gathering in the country. Accordingly, 2016 holds much promise for Eritrea’s academic world with the launch of the First International Conference on Eritrean Studies (ICES), to be held July 20-22 at the Asmara Palace Hotel. International Conference on Eritrean Studies (Call for Abstracts)

International Conference on Eritrean Studies, Eritrean Studies: The Way Forward, July 20 – 22, 2016, Asmara, Eritrea

This conference aims to revive scholarly discussions on Eritrea and sketch ways of strengthening academic interest and activities related to the country by engaging scholars from inside and outside Eritrea. The event will offer an opportunity to scholars working on Eritrea to present their work to a larger academic gathering in Asmara. It will also provide a forum for local, Eritrean Diaspora, and international scholars to create and develop links with research and academic institutions and public stakeholders inside the country.
