Europe’s softening stand on Eritrea has sparked fear with in the TPLF, a minority clique now ruling Ethiopia, according to a report broadcasted last week by the Ethiopia Satellite Television, ESAT.

The complete failing of the TPLF’s long standing policy against Eritrea that emanates from the border conflict and its own claim of Eritrea’s continued supports to Ethiopian freedom forces, has left the regime confused, the report stated citing information and documents it received from sources who work at Ethiopia’s UN branch in New York. Eritrea is Building ‘its own type of Political System’

Yemane Gebreab, head of political affairs of Eritrea’s People’s Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ) and advisor to President Isaias Afwerki, gave a brief interview to the Deutsche Welle (DW) of Germany. Excerpts follow.

Yemane Gebreab is the second most influential person in Eritrea. In an exclusive interview, DW asked him about the large number of Eritreans fleeing the country and Asmara’s relations with its foe Ethiopia.

Last week, an official delegation from Eritrea visited Berlin, to strengthen bilateral ties with Germany. The visit was seen as controversial, owing to several reports on human rights violations in the African country. EU and Eritrea Signed €18.7m Drip Irrigation Systems Supply and Installation Deal

The European Union and the State of Eritrea have today committed to continue and strengthen cooperation on development projects. A further major milestone of the EU’s program in “Support to Agriculture/Food Security in Eritrea” has been met: on Thursday 08 September 2016, the Ministry of National Development and the Israeli contractor “Naan Dan Jain Irrigation LTD” signed a contract worth €18.7 million for the supply and installation of drip irrigation systems for 16 irrigation sites in two out of six regions in Eritrea. EU Approves €200 million Development Package to Eritrea

Done and Dusted. All the 28 EU Member States Unanimously approved a €200 million Development package to Eritrea through the 11th European Development Fund (EDF).

The European Union today has announced €200 million of new long term support to promote poverty reduction and socio-economic development in Eritrea through the 11th European Development Fund (EDF).
