The National Higher Education and Research Institute (NHERI) hosted a dissemination seminar of the Eritrea-Finland Cooperation in Higher Education on Monday the 12th of March.

The one-day seminar at the Asmara Palace Hotel which was attended by higher education officials, Ministers and instructors from both countries focused on reflections about the overall tasks accomplished since the signing of the cooperation deal in November 2015. ICT4EEDU – Strengthening ICT in Education in Eritrea

A three year project launched in collaboration with government and Universities of Finland aimed at strengthening the human and ICT infrastructure capacity of the Eritrean Institute of Technology (EIT).

Eritrea and Finland Signed Bilateral Agreement on Technical Cooperation

Mr. Pekka Haavisto, Special envoy of the Finnish Foreign Ministry, today signed cooperation agreement with Eritrea that aims at enhancing IT facilities in all higher learning institutions and to initiate post-graduate GIS program.

Eritrea and Finland signed an Agreement on Technical Cooperation on higher education in Asmara on 2nd October 2015 this week.

The Agreement was signed by Mr. Semere Russom, the Minister of Education and Mr. Pekka Haavisto, Special Envoy of the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The cooperation agreement envisages Finnish support in five projects of higher education. These projects will enhance the quality and outreach of higher education; contribute to the further development of Eritrea’s education sector; and bolster the efficient use of research-based knowledge. Finland to Launch First Bilateral Development Cooperation Programme in Eritrea

New opportunities for young Eritreans through education cooperation, development of higher learning and vocational education programme from Finland.

Finland is about to launch its first bilateral development cooperation programme in Eritrea. This cooperation programme between Finnish and Eritrean higher education institutions (HEI) seeks to improve teaching, research and teacher training in Eritrea. It is also an example of how the root causes of emigration can be addressed in the country of origin through development cooperation.

Eritrea is burdened by large-scale youth emigration. Young people lacking qualifications and job opportunities are leaving in masses for the neighbouring countries and Europe in search of a better life. Eritreans are, in fact, the second largest group of refugees arriving in Europe across the Mediterranean. Finn Church Aid to Enter Partnership Program to Improve Education in Eritrea

Finn Church Aid (FCA) has entered into a 3 year agreement with the Eritrean National Commission for Higher Education to form an educational partnership aimed at revitalizing the education system in Eritrea.
