At least 112 refugees have died when a boat carrying Ethiopians and Somalians sank off the coast of the Somaliland autonomous region in northern Somalia.

The sinking occurred on Friday after the vessel suffered technical problems, regional health department official Abdurahman Yasin said.

‘The coast guard rescued 75 people and local residents spotted 112 bodies’ that were washed ashore, he added.

THE High Commission for Refugees has announced that more than 8148 African infiltrators arrived in Yemen during the first three months of 2014.

Efta is just 17 but has experienced shocking brutality. The Ethiopian teenager survived a treacherous boat journey being smuggled across the Red Sea. But on reaching Yemen, she was kidnapped and driven at gunpoint to a mud brick house.

She said: “They tortured other girls in front of me. They beat us and they raped us at gunpoint. I was terrified.”

She is one of 80,000 Ethiopian migrants who undertake this dangerous journey every year.
