A Matter of Time Before Another Protest Flares up in Ethiopia: HRW

Government should use reform, not force, to avoid more protests.

The state of emergency gave the government a window to address citizens’ grievances without the shadow of imminent protests. But the government missed that opportunity. Without those meaningful reforms, it is just a matter of time before people start protesting again.

BY ESAT NEWS

The Human Rights Watch said on Monday that based on interviews conducted with protesters, including those who were detained during the state of emergency, it was just a matter of time before they took their grievances to the streets again. At Least 75 Killed in Ethiopia Protests: HRW

Military Deployment. Terrorism Rhetoric. Police and military forces have used excessive lethal force against demonstrators killing at least 75 protesters.

By Peter Martell | for AFP,

At least 75 people have been killed during weeks of protests in Ethiopia which have seen soldiers and police firing on demonstrators, Human Rights Watch said on Saturday.

“Police and military forces have fired on demonstrations, killing at least 75 protesters and wounding many others, according to activists,” HRW said in a statement.

Rights groups have repeatedly criticised Ethiopia’s use of anti-terrorism legislation to stifle peaceful dissent, with Washington expressing concern over the crackdown and urging Addis Ababa to employ restraint.  Continue reading At Least 75 Killed in Ethiopia Protests: HRW

UN Abuses the Rights of the People and Government of Eritrea

UN’s accusation to the people that fought for the human rights of Eritreans for human rights violations is abusured

By Amanuel Biedemariam,

It is hard to see or believe the UN as a warring entity for it is supposed to be the embodiment of neutrality, fairness, impartiality and judiciousness. It is supposed to be free from serving the agendas of one nation at the expense of another.

The UN is not supposed to take sides between warring nations. The UN is only supposed to work, when it is called for, (as in the cases of Rwanda that it terribly failed) at the behest of member nations. However, as the recent actions of UN rapporteur on Eritrea led by Ms. Sheila Keetharuth demonstrated the UN has effectively taken side and is aiding Ethiopia’s war efforts against Eritrea in pursuit of greater Western agenda led by US.  Continue reading UN Abuses the Rights of the People and Government of Eritrea

Ethiopia’s Human Rights Crisis Worsened: HRW

“Donors countries and development agencies are partly to blame for the deteriorating human right situation in Ethiopia” – HRW

By Betre Yacob,

The human rights situation in Ethiopia has worsened drastically, according to the 2013 Human Rights Watch’s World Report, which summarizes the human rights situation of more than 90 countries worldwide—drawing on events from the end of 2011 through November 2012.

The 665 page report says that Ethiopia’s dictatorial regime has deliberately continued to severely restrict fundamental rights of freedom of expression, association, and assembly. In addition, the report indicates that intimidation, arbitrary arrest, torture, forced displacement, and killing remain routine throughout the country.  Continue reading Ethiopia’s Human Rights Crisis Worsened: HRW

Human Rights Watch Attempts to Terrorize the People of Eritrea

The people of Eritrea do not fit the profiles of any of the global enemies of the West yet it has been chosen as a target by HRW and others.

By Amanuel Biedemariam,

Human Rights Watch (HRW) is a political organization manipulating human rights agendas to further Western and US hegemony globally. The international community is yet to wake up to the reach, penetration, funding, ability and, all the activities HRW conducts globally.

HRW is funded by sources that pursue global US and Western agendas. The leadership, based in the US, runs offices around the world and has affiliation to think tank groups and lobbying services in key strategic areas to further Western hegemony.  Continue reading Human Rights Watch Attempts to Terrorize the People of Eritrea

HRW to Release Damning Report on Eritrea’s Nascent Mining Industry

Nevsun CEO says Human Rights Watch have categorically refused to give him copy of report they have circulated in advance to selected press. What’s so opaque?

HRW Africa Division Head, Daniel Bekele, an Ethiopian with anti-Eritrea bias should not be expected to author a balanced report

By Sophia Tesfamariam,

Not surprisingly, in an effort to thwart Eritrea’s nascent mining industry, Human Rights Watch (HRW) has produced yet another damning document on Eritrea and has chosen to circulate it in the western press before allowing Eritrea or the parties mentioned to provide responses. The timing is curious as it was just last month that the 2nd very successful Investors Conference was held in Eritrea. HRW’s intentions are transparent.

HRW’s anti-Eritrea campaigns have mimicked and run side by side with that of Eritrea’s enemies for the last 12 years. Continue reading HRW to Release Damning Report on Eritrea’s Nascent Mining Industry
