THE Twentieth Fourth Edition of ‘Eri-News’, a bi-weekly electronic newsletter prepared by the Press Section at the Permanent Mission of the State of Eritrea to the AU and UNECA, is out today.

In this edition, issues like President Isaias visit to Qatar; the appointment of new Qatari and Chinese Ambassadors to Eritrea; the commencement of Qatar Airways regular flight to Eritrea; Eritrea’s participation at the G77 meeting in Bolivia; and Ambassador Fessahazion Petros’ nomination as Eritrean envoy to IFAD will be covered extensively. On 17 December, a U.N. delegation concluded its three-day visit to Eritrea, assessing the country’s development advances and reviewing, with government partners, national development priorities for the next three years.

Headed by the Chair of the Regional United Nations Development Group (UNDG)  for Eastern and Southern Africa, Abdoulaye Mar Dieye, the delegation comprised of Regional Directors from UNDP, UNICEF, IOM, UNFPA, ILO and WFP. A UN delegation headed by Mr. Abdoulaye Mar Dieye, Assistant Secretary General and Regional Director of UNDP/RBA, and Chairman of UNDG-ESA Mission, recently visited Eritrea to monitor development work and engage in dialogue with development partners. UNDP Approves $188m for Eritrea Country Programme

The Executive Board of the UNDP has approved the new Eritrea Country Program following the signing of a new Strategic Partnership Cooperation Framework (SPCF) 2013-2016 with the Government of Eritrea on January 28, 2013.

IFAD Supports US$26.38m Eritrea National Agriculture Project

IFAD supports project that aims improve livelihoods of smallholder farmers in Eritrea

The UN agency, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), has agreed to finance the US$26.38 million ‘National Agricultural Project’ in Eritrea with a US$17.28m grants.

The project is expected to cover a total agricultural area of 1.2 million hectares (ha) in 34 sub-zobas (regions) that spread across the country’s six zobas and three agro-ecological zones.

Over the six-year implementation period of the project, the US$17.28m IFAD Debt Sustainability Framework (DSF) grant will cover 65% of the project cost. Continue reading IFAD Supports US$26.38m Eritrea National Agriculture Project
