AFTER a Malaysian Passenger Jet Flight MH17 was shot down in eastern Ukraine on July 17, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) expanded an existing regulation that prohibited certain flights from operating in some regions.
Accordingly, the FAA as of July 18 issued, among others, a Special Federal Aviation Regulation No. 87 that prohibit against certain flights within the territory and airspace of Ethiopia effective immediately.
All U.S. flight operators are now prohibited in Ethiopian airspace north of 12 degrees latitude as well as all aircraft that cross into Ethiopian airspace while taking off or landing at Mandera Airstrip in Kenya that may be fired upon by Ethiopian forces.
