THE Twentieth Edition of ‘Eri-News’, a bi-weekly electronic newsletter prepared by the Press Section at the Permanent Mission of the State of Eritrea to the AU and UNECA, is out today.

Eritrea Opens 5th Regional Mining Conference

Over 50 international mining companies convened for the 5th annual Mining Conference in Asmara, Eritrea

THE 5th Eritrean Mining Conference opened today at Asmara Palace Hotel here in the capital under the theme “Mining Excellence for Driving Economic Growth”.

Speaking at the opening of the Conference in which Government officials, representatives of various countries, mining companies and social service-rendering institutions took part, Gen. Nevsun Announces Q3 Gold Production of 98,000 Ounces

Nevsun expects to exceed  it’s planned production guidance for the year

Nevsun Resources Ltd. (TSX:NSU / NYSE MKT:NSU) is pleased to announce strong production results of 98,000 ounces of gold for the quarter ended September 30, 2012. Gold production in the quarter was again above expectations due to higher than anticipated grades in the transitional oxide zone.

Sudan Opens Biggest Gold Refinery

Dubbed as the second largest Gold refinery on the continent, it is expected to improve the quality of Sudan’s rising gold exports and offset the economic damage inflicted by the loss of most of its oil revenues.

The refinery has a daily production capacity of 900kg of gold and 200kg of silver

Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir has opened the country’s first gold refinery, which officials say is one of Africa’s largest plants.

Analysts say it is part of a strategy by the Khartoum government to deal with the loss of oil revenue following the session of South Sudan last year.

The Sudan Gold Refinery will produce more than 328 tonnes of gold each year. Last month, the finance ministry said the export of gold ore from Sudan would be banned once the refinery opened. Continue reading Sudan Opens Biggest Gold Refinery
