Dutch Action Against Eritrea’s Charge d’Affaires is Unwarranted and Unacceptable

The designation of Eritrea’s Charge d’Affaires as persona non grata constitutes an arbitrary and provocative act that has no consonance with the Vienna Protocol on Diplomatic Relations

Eritrea is considering to take appropriate reciprocal measures against the Dutch government to partially redress the wrong.

On Tuesday last week, the Dutch Foreign Ministry expelled Eritrea’s Charge d’Affaires to the country, Mr. Tekeste Ghebremedhin, invoking untenable explanations for its unacceptable act.

President Isaias Receives Credentials of 11 Envoys

Eleven resident and non-resident Ambassadors of Turkey, China, Pakistan, Netherlands, Rwanda, South Korea, India, Namibia, Norway and North Korea today submitted their credential to President Isaias Afwerki.

President Isaias Afwerki today received at the Denden Guest House the credentials of 11 Ambassadors.

The Ambassadors who submitted their credentials are: Mr. Aykut Kumbaroglu of Turkey, Mr.Yang Zigang of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Joff Otieno Makowenga of the Republic of Kenya, Mr. Raza Bashir Tarar of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Dr. Karin Boven of the Netherlands, Mr. James Kimonyo of the Republic of Rwanda, Mr. Lee Kiseong of the Republic of Korea [South], Mr. Amrit Lugun of India, Mr. Japhet Isaack of Namibia, Mr. Bard Hopland of the Kingdom of Norway and Mr. Ma Yong Hui of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea [North]. New Eritrean Ambassador to the Netherlands Presents Credentials

THE Eritrean Ambassador to the European Union, Mr. Negasi Kassa, has presented his credentials to His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands as Eritrea’s non-resident Ambassador to the country.

The Ambassador conveyed a message of goodwill from President Isaias Afwerki to King Willem-Alexander and the people of the Netherlands. He expressed the readiness of the Eritrean Government to further strengthen the existing ties with the Netherlands, the EU and other member countries of the union. The New York Times and the Missing Eritrean Footballers

The New York Times continues to provide shoddy and biased coverage of Eritrea, lacking in context and ignoring the role of forces behind politicized transnational migration.

ON May 22, 2014, James Montague penned an article in the New York Times entitled “A National Team Without a Country,” which recounts the two year journey of 18 players on Eritrea’s national soccer team as they migrate from Uganda to the Netherlands.

Notably, publication of the article falls just two days before Eritrean Independence, painting a rather gloomy and one-sided picture of life in Eritrea that starkly juxtaposes with the current celebratory spirit seizing the soon-to-be 23-year-old nation.  Continue reading The New York Times and the Missing Eritrean Footballers
