Dawit Isaak’s Freedom Cannot Simply Left to Politicians: Martin Schibbye

The debate in Sweden has long been revolved around whether the “quiet diplomacy” works, or if Sweden should use harder words. Journalist Martin Schibbye, who recently visited Eritrea and soon travel there again, is of the opinion that the issue of Dawit Isaak’s freedom is too important to be left to politicians alone. Today, Dawit Isaak imprisoned for 16 years and the debate has raged since he was arrested on the best strategy to get him free.

I was in Eritrea last year with a special journalist’s visa to Asmara and was able to notice a greater openness towards journalists and got answers to the questions I asked.

A few years ago, questions about Dawit Isaak were rejected with aggression. Now I notice that he is alive and that he was treated well, but that the question whether a solution was an internal Eritrean affair. Sweden ‘Facing Collapse’ Due to Mass Influx of Refugees: FM Margot Wallstrom

BACKFIRE. Sweden’s welcoming policy and generous benefits system attracts more migrants to the country leading to the present mass influx of refugees

By RT.com,

A leading Swedish politician says the country is facing a refugee catastrophe, which will lead to the “country collapsing.” The bold claims were made by Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom, who adds the EU needs to do more to take the strain off Stockholm.

The northern European country expects to accommodate around 190,000 by the turn of the year, but this is putting a strain on the country both economically and socially. Wallstrom says that Stockholm needs more help and intends to put pressure on European Union member states to take a greater share of the burden the continent is facing from the refugee crisis in the Middle East and Africa. The Open and Shameful Swedish Media Bias Against Eritrea

The exquisite art of war unleashed against Eritrea by the Swedish media today has a mismatch of monumental proportions. It’s characterized by a systematic trend of instilling hate on Eritrea by creating barriers, distortions, lies and myths about Eritrea. FAIL.

By Alem Fisshatzion,

THERE is no doubt in my mind that it would be easier for a leopard to change its spots than for the Swedish media to change its bias stance against Eritrea. It is no secret that media in Sweden is in general a very bias within its own echelons, and very much so, depending on its party colors.

In a debate article in Aftonbladet on 8th July 2005, one Lars Nord, a researcher on mass media at the faculty for democracy at Mittuniversitetet wrote: “The mass media are not bias”, but quickly goes on to add: “but the winner has a higher news value than the looser”.  Continue reading The Open and Shameful Swedish Media Bias Against Eritrea

Ethiopia’s ambassador to Sweden, Woinshet Tadesse

By Abraha Belai,

ANGRY Ethiopian activists on Sunday pelted the car of Ethiopia’s ambassador to Sweden, Mrs. Woinshet Tadesse, with rotten eggs and fish as she was about to walk into a meeting hall.

Swedish Police called for reinforcements as tempers flared with the activists calling the diplomat a “banda“, which means an enemy hireling or a mercenary.

Extremely harsh and brutal government repression in Ethiopia for decades is draining the patience of the Ethiopian people as seen in the video.  Continue reading Sweden: TPLF Ambassador Pelted with Rotten Eggs
