The opening stage of the 103rd Tour de France came down to a bunch sprint in Utah Beach and Mark Cavendish gave Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka an incredible stage victory and also secured his, and our African Team’s, first ever yellow jersey of the Tour de France.
Starting in Mont-Saint-Michel, Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka had a clear plan of delivering Cavendish to the sprint finale with the hope of taking the stage victory and the yellow jersey. The 188km stage to Utah Beach suited the sprinters perfectly and so the 5 rider breakaway that did go clear early on, had zero chance of making it to the finish first.

AWESOME. Two Eritrean riders, Daniel Teklehaimanot and Natal Berhane are included in Team Dimension Data’s 13 member provisional squad for the Tour de France.
Six African riders were included in Team Dimension Data’s provisional squad for the Tour de France on Tuesday, led by Eritrean Daniel Teklehaimanot who won a second successive king-of-the-mountains crown at this month’s Criterium du Dauphine.

Daniel Teklehaimanot made in the 2015 Tour de France when he spent four days in the race’s polka-dot jersey, becoming not only the first Eritrean but the first African to wear that jersey. The success brought him to the attention of the wider cycling world and now the 27-year-old has set his sights on another first for 2016. Teklehaimanot, who is like a dog with a bone when it comes to achieving his targets, is now looking for his debut Grand Tour victory. history
“I was really happy this year with my performance, and I’d like to be able to do something again next year. I hope that I can do more. I can’t say if it will be as good as this year, but I would like to be stronger,” Teklehaimanot told Cyclingnews at the team’s training camp last month.

The official route for the 2016 Tour de France has been announced today in a ceremony held in Paris. The tour runs from Saturday July 2 to Sunday July 24.
Present at the occasion was the 2015 Tour de France sensation from Team MTN-Qhubeka, the Eritrean Daniel Teklehaimanot. He was seen on the stage with #TDF2015 best nine riders.
According to the new route, the 2016 edition of the Tour de France will cover 3,519kms starting from Mont Saint-Michel on July 2 and finishing in Paris three weeks later.
