Eritrea-Based Journalist on Meb Keflezighi’s Marathon Win: ‘Absolutely Thrilled and Delighted’

Eritrean – American Meb Kiflezghi made history after winning the 2014 Boston Marathon

ON Monday, Meb Keflezighi became the first American man to win the Boston Marathon in 31 years. Though his 2014 Boston Marathon performance marked one of the great American sports moments in recent memory, his triumph was celebrated some 6,500 miles away, in Keflezighi’s native Eritrea, a small African country on the border of Ethiopia.

“As an Eritrean, I am absolutely thrilled and delighted Meb has been able to repay his adopted Nation with a sporting triumph. Best Patriotic Website Award goes to TesfaNews

THE 10th YPFDJ Congress today voted TesfaNews as the best Eritrean news and information website of the year.

The announcement was made at the closing ceremony of the three day grand Euro-Conference that was held in Geneva, Switzerland in the presence of senior PFDJ officials, Eritrean Ambassadors, friends of Eritrea as well as hundreds of patriotic Eritrean youth from different parts of the world.

South Sudan Offers to Send Troops to Somalia and Mediate Ethio-Eritrea Border Row

World’s newest and Africa’s 54th country, South Sudan, has announced its intention to contribute troops to the African Union (AU) peacekeeping force in Somalia that backs the weak interim government.

Deng Alor Kuol, South Sudan foreign affairs minister, said the new state was “prepared” to bolster the AU force to show its commitment to peace in Africa in comments to the BBC’s Focus on Africa program, on Monday.

It is part of our responsibility to help our Somalia brothers and sisters to achieve peace,” Alor said. “We, as Africans, must be in the lead to alleviate problems before we ask the Western world or anyone else, to come to our help”, he added.
