The German government expressed its willingness to finance the demobilization and reintegration of about 35,000 Ethiopian opposition rebel fighters who recently returned from Eritrea.

Ethiopia and TPDM Rebels Sign Peace Deal

Representatives of the Ethiopian Government and the Tigray People’s Democratic Movement (TPDM) signed Reconciliation Meeting agreement in Asmara.

Berhanu Nega Would be Based in Eritrea Until Freedom Achieved in Ethiopia: Neamin Zeleke

Professor Berhanu Nega and other senior leaders of the Ethiopian armed opposition forces would be based in Eritrea until freedom is achieved in Ethiopia.

Neamin Zeleke, Head of Foreign Affairs of Patriotic Ginbot 7 International Leadership and a member of Arbegnoch Ginbot 7 (AG7) Council, told ESAT that the formation of United Movement for the Salvation of Ethiopia through Democracy (ሃገር ኣድን ንቅናቄ) has elevated the struggle for freedom and democracy in Ethiopia to a higher level.

Mr. Neamin travelled to Eritrea and remained there for three months before returning at the end of last week. He said Ethiopian opposition forces unequivocally have full confidence in the government of Eritrea and highly appreciative of the support it has been proving for Ethiopian liberation forces. Mr. Neamin also affirmed that the Eritrean government does not make undue interference in the internal affairs of Ethiopian forces based in Eritrea. TPDM Chairman Mola Asegedom Defected to Sudan

Mola Asghedom, Chairman of the Tigray People’s Democratic Movement (TPDM) and Deputy Chairman of the newly formed coalition movement known as the United Front for the Salvation of Ethiopia through Democracy (ሃገር ኣድን ንቅናቄ) have reportedly escaped to Sudan through the border town of Hamdait with a handful of soldiers.

However, ESAT reports indicates that Mola Asghedom in fact defected to Ethiopia. The reason for his escape / defection is not yet known. According to ESAT sources, though, it could be resulted from major differences and disagreements that started to evolve in the process of forming the coalition with Arbegnoch Ginbot 7 for Unity and Democratic Movement (AGUDM), Afar People’s Liberation Movement (APLM), and the Amhara Democratic Force Movement (ADFM).
