Eritrea’s Information Minister: “Ethiopia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs has blabbered about the “need to maintain” the illicit sanctions on Eritrea to the visiting UNSC/Monitoring Group. She must be living in Cuckoo’s land if she really believes that Ethiopia had, or has, any diplomatic clout in this matter.”

There is another new and exciting revelation made this week by Uganda’s army spokesperson regarding his countrymen’s involvement in the rank and file of the notorious Somali militant group, Al-Shabaab.

Lt Col. Felix Kulayigye, Uganda Peoples Defense Force (UPDF) spokesperson, told a gathering of diplomatic heads of missions and religious leaders from Africa on a conference at the Africana Hotel in Kampala that several of the commanders of Al-Shabaab, who continued fighting the weak Transitional Federal Government (TFG) in Somalia are in fact Ugandans. Muslim Kenyans Fund and Recruit Al-Shabaab: UN Report

Somalia’s al Qaeda-linked rebels have extensive funding, recruiting and training networks within Kenya, and have also established connections with jihadist groups across the continent, according to a UN report. A UN Monitoring Group report on Somalia and Eritrea obtained by Reuters said non-Somali Kenyan nationals now constitute the largest and most organised non-Somali entity within the al Shabaab group.

Al Shabaab has been waging an insurgency against the UN-backed government in Somalia since 2007. It controls large parts of southern and central Somalia, as well as chunks of the capital, Mogadishu.

In the past, al Shabaab’s presence in Kenya has been concentrated primarily within the ethnic Somali community. UN Monitoring Group on Somalia: Any Credibility Left?

The UN is fast becoming a tool for manuplation by Western powers

The UN Monitoring Group (MG) that is responsible to scrutinize the arms moving into Somalia will present its report in the coming few days. While the Group has not yet released its latest report, one needs no crystal ball to predict what the report will include.

Invariably, it will endorse the allegations that were already made by Ethiopian officials “Eritrea is supporting rebels in Djibouti, a splinter group from the SPLM/A, Islamist in Somalia, and was attempting to kill African presidents in Addis Ababa”. Its recommendation will similarly be the same to what recently Ethiopia requested in the name of IGAD: more and tougher sanctions on Eritrea, targeting the mining sector and remittances from the Diaspora.
