UN Human Rights Council Appoints Members of Commission of Inquiry on Eritrea

From the onset, Keetharuts’s actions and subsequent reports violates the principles of impartiality, non-selectivity and objectivity that govern the work of UN Rapporteurs.  Intentionally, she prefers to act as an activist rather than a mandate holder. Her crude political cherry-picking leads into a complete deadlock. The fate of this commission won’t be different unless otherwise it is ready to take into account several of Eritrea’s concerns

THE President of the Human Rights Council, Ambassador Baudelaire Ndong Ella (Gabon), announced today the appointment of Mike Smith of Australia and Victor Dankwa of Ghana who will join Sheila B. Keetharuth, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Eritrea, to serve as the members of the commission of inquiry to investigate all alleged human rights violations in Eritrea, mandated by the Council at its June 2014 session.

FM Urges UNHRC to Terminate and Rescind Country-Specific Resolutions on Eritrea

FM questioning the legality and wisdom of circumventing UPR mechanism selectively at the 25th Session of UNHRC

Eritrean Foreign Minister, Osman Saleh, on Monday called on the United Nations Human Rights Council to unequivocally terminate both the Country-Specific Resolution and Country Mandate holder on Eritrea in order for the Council focus on strengthening engagement, dialogue and institutional linkage with Eritrea under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) framework that he described it as timely and legitimate.
