THE past 12 months have been productive and fruitful for the United Nations in Eritrea. Towards the end of 2013, the UNDG-ESA mission visited Eritrea, kicking of a year of several missions and events.

Key among them include; the visit of the technical mission from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in January 2014, the Joint Annual review of the SPCF in June 2014, the data and statistics mission at the invitation of Government in August 2014, the DPA mission also in August 2014, the DPA led brainstorming on Eritrea facilitated by the Conflict Prevention and Peace Forum (CPPF) in New York, and lastly the visit of the UNDG focal point for Eritrea and UNICEF Regional Director, Ms. Leila Pakkala together with IOM Regional Director, Mr. Ashraf El Nour. United Nations Delegation Wraps up High-level Visit to Eritrea

On 17 December, a U.N. delegation concluded its three-day visit to Eritrea, assessing the country’s development advances and reviewing, with government partners, national development priorities for the next three years.

Headed by the Chair of the Regional United Nations Development Group (UNDG)  for Eastern and Southern Africa, Abdoulaye Mar Dieye, the delegation comprised of Regional Directors from UNDP, UNICEF, IOM, UNFPA, ILO and WFP. Visiting High Level UN Mission Underlines Eritrea’s Success Story

A UN delegation headed by Mr. Abdoulaye Mar Dieye, Assistant Secretary General and Regional Director of UNDP/RBA, and Chairman of UNDG-ESA Mission, recently visited Eritrea to monitor development work and engage in dialogue with development partners. UNDP Approves $188m for Eritrea Country Programme

The Executive Board of the UNDP has approved the new Eritrea Country Program following the signing of a new Strategic Partnership Cooperation Framework (SPCF) 2013-2016 with the Government of Eritrea on January 28, 2013.

This new cooperation framework, which was prepared through a consultative process between the Government of the State of Eritrea and United Nations System, will have five strategic area focuses: Capacity development, Social protection, Energy and environment, Gender and Food Security.  Continue reading UNDP Approves $188m for Eritrea Country Programme
