The Massawa Circuit that was conducted on Sunday (17) was the second part of the Eritrean race series ahead of the 6th Annual Tour of Eritrea. In this one-day, UCI 1.2, 117.7 Km grilling race, Africa’s top ranked rider Tesfom Okubamariam of the Eritrean national team registered a resounding victory after clocking 2:48:24.
Countrymen Yonathan Haile (2:48:24) from local Salina team and Meron Teshome (2:48:30) from Stradalli-Bike Aid completed second and third bagging 30 and 25 UCI points respectively.
A total of 44 riders from Rwanda, Sudan, Egypt, Italy and Germany took part in this hot competition, traveling an average of 42 Km an hour on a flat circuit around the historic port city of Massawa.
It is to be recalled, in the Day #1 of the113 Km Foro – Ghindae race for “Fenkil Challenge”, Eritrean riders outshines their opponents by winning the first top three ranks. Yellow Jersey goes to first place holder Michael Habtom from Team Salina, Blue Jersey to Adhanom Zemikael for ‘Best under 23’ and white Jersey to Jean Claude of Rwanda for best foreigner cyclist of the day.
As a reminder, African Champion Tesfom Okubamariam has got a one year Professional contract with the Emirate’s new UCI Continental Cycling Team Sharjah.
