Two SF260 Ethiopian Air Force training planes collided and crushed near Dire Dawa, Eastern Ethiopia, during a takeoff and landing training sessions resulting to the death of one SU27 fighter jet pilot and seriously injuring the remaining three pilots.
The Reporter newspaper today reported that the accident that occurred last week resulted when the wing of the first plane that was training a pilot on how to land and takeoff instantly clipped the cockpit of the other trainer’s plane who happens to be on the taxiway preparing to take off. The wing smashed the trainers head and killed him instantly.
The deceased pilot’s name was Captain Maereg Hiwot from Dessie woreda of the Amhara region.
