David Ward has been appointed the United Kingdom’s ambassador to Eritrea, according to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, a department of government. .
Ward, who will take up his appointment during May 2014, will succeed Dr. Amanda Tanfield.
After working on Asian affairs, including two postings in East Asia, Ward was most recently assigned as Deputy Head of the multinational Provincial Reconstruction Team in Lashkar Gah, Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
“I am delighted to have been appointed to this position and to have been given the opportunity to develop the bilateral relationship between the United Kingdom and Eritrea.” Ward said. “I look forward to getting to know better the people of Eritrea, their country and their culture.”
